Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
In the first week of January 2010 HRH Prince Charles-Philippe d’Orléans, Duc d’Anjou, with his wife, HRH Princess Diana d’Orléans, Duchesse de Cadaval, and HE Count Philippe Piccapietra, Grand Chancellor, led the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem on a pilgrimage back to its home in the Holy Land. The Order originated some nine centuries ago with crusader knights at the ancient Armenian-founded hospital beside the walls of Jerusalem, where lepers and wounded knights...
2009 Chapter General of the Order of Saint Lazarus held in Portugal
For their triennial International Reunion, members, supporters and distinguished guests from all over Europe and the USA gathered for the first time in Portugal. According to the Constitutional Charter of the Order of Saint Lazarus and a practice dating back centuries, the Chapter General is held around Pentecost. Symbolic of the early Church, members come together from many nations and religious traditions to be confirmed in their spirit so that in unity they can go out to others renewed.
Humanitarian mission welcomed by the King of Cambodia
Leaders of the Order of Saint Lazarus and partner organization HAMAP spent two weeks in Cambodia, giving practical support to their medical missions in remote areas. They also held meetings with other NGOs and opened a new clinic beside a rubbish dump which is home to 2,000 destitute families. The delegation was received by the King of Cambodia, who gave them great encouragement and accepted the Grand Cross of Merit of the Order of Saint Lazarus in recognition of his own humanitarian work.
